Metro Police commemorate late officer with special ceremony

Today the City’s Metro Police Department hosted  a tree planting ceremony and unveiled a plaque in commemoration of the late officer Charlene Moses. The event, attended by Metro Police Officers and Alderman JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, took place at the Green Point Precinct Tamarisk horse stables.

The ceremony, in honour of officer Moses, paid tribute to her dedication and commitment for the work she loved.

The event started off with an equestrian procession to the stables, where a tree was planted.

Officer Moses had 18 years of service and was the manager at the Equestrian Unit. She passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 ‘The Metro Police Department plays a vital role in contributing towards a safe environment and the dedication of our officers patrolling the streets and assisting other enforcement agencies is a motivation in these challenging times. With this ceremony, we not only pay tribute to officer Moses but also acknowledge and show respect for the important contribution our officers make. We sometimes tend to forget the helping hand that officers provide to those in need. Officers not only enforce the law, but often display acts of kindness – these small acts, sometimes unnoticed,  go a long way,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

At the ceremony, officers planted a Ficus tree - a tree officer Moses always admired.

‘Respected and loved by her colleagues, Officer Moses’s legacy will be in the hearts of the officers she worked with. I would like to thank our officers, and especially our Equestrian Unit, for hosting this ceremony – it shows respect for humanity and the important role of our relationships with colleagues, friends and families. Working together, we will succeed in the many challenges we face,’  added Alderman Smith.
